Guest Quarters With the Quarters as your own 'vacation beach-head', you and your crew can enjoy the best access to all that the Florida Keys have to offer offshore and on dry land.  Ideally located for direct ocean access and convenient bay access, Capatain's Quarters welcomes you home from your day's adventures in beautiful Islamorada and the neighboring islands.   The House & Grounds Whether your goal is to disappear without a trace into a private tropical island setting, explore the fun and beauty of Islamorada, or fish/snorkel/dive the Atlantic and come home to a spectacular oceanfront home, the Captain's Quarters at Whale Harbor Estate is the ideal Keys vacation home.  The grounds offer you and your fellow-guests plenty of onsite parking for your vehicles and several large boat trailers.  The same is true of the private dockage space... lots of room for everyone's boat.  There's ample wiggle room so that no one feels crowded walking around the grounds.  There's also plenty of natural shade to escape the hot sun, and certainly plenty of water to cool off with, as well. Located in historic Islamorada, the estate is within walking distance to world-famous establishments such as the Tiki Bar, Holiday Isle, Theater Of the Sea, and the Whale Harbor Restaurant (no affiliation). There are numerous other nearby restaurants and activities, including swimming with the dolphins, glass-bottom boat tours, personal watercraft rentals and much more. If you like fishing but don’t want to bring your boat with you, there are dozens of charter fishing boats that can make your dream-catch come true. Additional nearby activities include bowling (at the Fish Bowl), billiards and jogging/biking.  Backyard with private boat dockage Palm tree canopy Living room Ground Level Comfort and convenience abound.  The ground floor of this spacious, 2-story private home features a large living room with a fireplace and dining room area separated from a large gourmet kitchen by a snack bar. The common living areas are otherwise contiguous.  Whereas the bedrooms are clearly separated for the privacy of each guest or couple, the 'open concept' ground level layout promotes conversation and sharing.  Two sets of double-sliding glass doors and a large central window facilitate transition of the outdoor beauty to the indoors.  At one corner of the living room, a traditional ship-style spiral staircase leads to the bedrooms on the second level.  Exit the living room or dining room doors and find yourself beneath an expansive canopy-covered back porch that runs the length of the house... the perfect place to enjoy an outdoor meal cooked on the grill.  Several feet away is the outdoor shower, where you and your guests can rinse off with fresh water after taking a dip in mother nature's waters in the boat basin.  Back inside the house, and just around the bend from the kitchen, there is a convenient ground-level bathroom (with shower). General amenities at the Quarters include phones with local phone service, central air conditioning, cable TV (in the living room and each of the 4 bedrooms), stereo tuner with CD player in the living room, DVD player in the living room, VCR players in the bedrooms, full kitchen with microwave and blender, full dinnerware set and cooking utensils, refrigerator with icemaker, outdoor gas BBQ grill, all linens (towels, bedsheets, pillows) provided, clothes washer & dryer, and an outdoor hammock (it wouldn't be a Keys home without one, would it?).  Fireplace sitting area Living room & spiral staircase to 2nd floor Second Level Three of the four bedrooms have king size beds and spectacular direct ocean views.  Each of these bedrooms opens to a screened-in balcony, which beckons you to open the glass doors and enjoy a southern Atlantic ocean breeze and rustling of the palm tree leaves.  The fourth bedroom, unlike each of the first three bedrooms, has two twin size beds and no water views.  Each of the four bedrooms has its own television set and cable access. There are two full bathrooms on the second floor.  One of these is in the master bedroom and the other is off the main hallway.  (There is a third bathroom on the ground level, as well.)  A clothes washer and dryer is also conveniently located on the second floor. King size beds in 3 of the 4 bedrooms Ocean views from 3 of the 4 bedrooms TV with cable in all 4 bedrooms Special Guest Considerations HANDICAP ACCESS -- There is sufficient secure parking area for any type of specialty transporation vehicle.  The ground floor at Captain's Quarters is amenable to wheelchair access to the spacious general living areas, including the kitchen, dining room, living room and fireplace sitting area.  Wheelchair-bound guests would require some assistance using the ground floor bathroom, however.  If you are considering staying at the Quarters and have a guest with special needs, contact us in advance to discuss how we may be able to assist you with making our home available to EVERYONE in your family. PETS -- We have a general 'No Pets' policy, but are willing to make an occasional exception to allow small, superbly trained pets to stay at the Quarters with their human families (subject to our approval).
